Frequently asked
Questions we get, answered.
If you can't find yours here, send it through the request form — we reply in English.
Getting started
Do I need a Chinese account, phone number, or Alipay?
No. ChinaConcierge handles the Chinese side of the order: we read the listings, settle with suppliers in CNY, and arrange domestic shipping. You read English and pay in USD. You never need a Chinese bank account, phone number, Alipay, or WeChat Pay.
Which Chinese sites do you search?
1688, Taobao, Tmall, JD, Pinduoduo, and smaller listings we can reach. We are not affiliated with any of them. If a source is behind an unusual paywall we tell you.
Do you keep inventory or resell?
No. Every order is sourced on your behalf, at your request. We buy for you, verify, and hand off. Nothing is in stock ahead of time.
Pricing and payment
Why do I make two payments?
The first payment goes to us and covers the item cost plus our service fee. The second goes directly to the shipping carrier and covers freight and duties. We never touch the second one, which is what keeps freight transparent and lets PayPal charge you less in processing fees overall.
How do you quote me?
A line-item quote in USD: product cost, our service fee, and any add-ons, each on its own line. Nothing is merged. Shipping inside China is already inside the product cost, so it never appears as an extra line. Quotes are valid for 10 days; after that we re-quote.
What do you charge?
A service fee on the product cost, plus any add-ons you choose. The rate depends on the work, not on the order size: 8% if you send us a link and we only order, receive, inspect and pack it; 15% if you send us a brief and we have to search, compare, sample and select the item for you. Neither rate is capped, and there is no minimum order and no minimum fee.
What is your minimum order?
There is none, in either direction. No minimum order value and no minimum fee — a small order is simply quoted as a small order. Large or unusual orders (over $1,500, or anything custom or multi-supplier) are quoted by hand instead of being pushed through the percentage, because a $2,000 order deserves its own reasoning. If the cost does not make sense for what you want, we will tell you honestly.
What happens if you can't find the item?
We tell you. No fee for the initial screening (typically 20-30 minutes). If a live link turns into a dead listing, we tell you before switching paths — a dead link becomes a sourcing job, and sourcing carries the higher rate, so you get to decide first. Only genuinely complex or custom requests move to a case-by-case quote, and we confirm with you before charging anything.
Shipping and delivery
Which carriers do you use?
We go with whatever the carrier network offers best for your address and item profile. DHL, FedEx, UPS, and several Chinese-first carriers are common. You pay the carrier directly.
Who is the importer of record?
It is written into every order — usually you. If it needs to be different, we discuss it on the quote before anything is booked. The buyer of record is logged per order.
DDU or DDP — what do those mean here?
DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) means the carrier charges you the duties at the destination. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means duties are included in the carrier quote. We note which one on every order and never assume.
Do you add anything on top of the carrier's price?
No. Freight goes to the carrier, unmarked up. If we ever take a margin on freight we will have to redesign the whole service.
Legal and privacy
What are your legal terms?
See the Terms of Service, Refund Policy, Privacy Policy, and Prohibited Items pages. They are linked from the footer on every page. In plain English: two payments, honest scope of inspection, jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction liability, and a data policy with named third parties.
Do you handle refunds?
See the Refund Policy. In short: the statutory cancellation right is separate from our contract refund terms. Refunds are proportional to the work completed, and the statutory consumer rights of your jurisdiction always apply on top.
Where do you store my photos?
Photos are emailed as attachments to our operations inbox via Resend and are not held in a public store. They are used only to source your order.
